The factory reset procedure (hold the reset button for 6-10 sec) seems to do nothing except restarting the device (shouldn't it revert to the openwrt config in the rom?). SpletFactory reset likely put it in a different subnet and then the adoption will fail. This is ultimately what happened. And it reassigned the IP of my pi.
