A replica of the Papil Stone may be seen in the kirkyard at Papil Kirk (St. Laurence Church) today. The biggest carving is of a Celtic cross, a symbol of Christianity. Webragged stepped fracture; this suggests that the stone may be the top of a much taller slab, perhaps of similar proportions to that of the Papil cross-slab from Burra Isle, Shetland (Alien & Anderson 1903, 15). The sides of the slab follow clean natural fissure lines, splaying slightly towards the base of the stone.
